About the area

Cawood is a beautiful location with a semi-rural setting. The historic market town has Cawood Castle, a visitor attraction. There is a lot of history surrounding the castle, you can also stay in one of the medieval rooms in the gatehouse which is the only part of the castle to survive today. It is said, Cardinal Thomas Wolsey who lived in the castle during the 1530’s is the inspiration behind the nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty!

There are lots of enjoyable Riverside walks around Cawood and the village also hosts lots of events such as the annual Riverside Beer Festival and activities for the children during the holidays. There is also the Castle Inn restaurant, Country pub (where dogs are also permitted) and a caravan park. Castle Inn has a great atmosphere and fantastic locally sourced food which reflects the changing seasons.

Cawood has excellent commuter links to York, Leeds & Selby via the M1, A1, A19 and A64 making this a superb location for all.
